Twenty Years of Prayer Answered

I am a forty-eight year old widow. I wasted thirty confused years as a result of a dysfunctional childhood and being a teenager during the late Sixties. I was mistrustful and skeptical. I thought I had no use for God.

I have a sister who started to meet with the local church twenty years ago. She has prayed for my salvation ever since. Finally, in the summer of 1996, as my husband, Robert lay dying from an Agent Orange-related cancer from his service in Vietnam, her prayers were answered. We both accepted Christ as our Savior! After his passing I was baptized in the meeting hall of the churc6h in Irvine. It was a truly cleansing experience.

As a new Christian the concept of surrendering myself to God was difficult to accept. As time wore on, and I attended prayer meetings and Bible studies at my sister's house I began to learn how to pray. Now I realize it is okay to “let go and let God.” He is my strength. He is a positive, nurturing, caring God. I don't need to go through life alone. Now I have the Lord as my source. Christ is growing and spreading in my heart.

Over the past two years people have noticed a gradual, yet steady change for the positive in my life and demeanor. Today I pray without forethought. Today I help others pray. Today the Lord is my Light (John 1:4-5). I have become a happy and worthwhile contributing member of society. My faith in the Lord has made me a shining example of His miracle.
